Assistant Director of Education

Salary: £89,133 to £95,481 (includes 6% car allowance supplement)

Make a real difference in a council where relationships, ambition, and outcomes for children come first.

North Lincolnshire Council is looking for an ambitious, values-driven education leader to join our high-performing and people-focused senior leadership team as our next Assistant Director of Education.

We are proud of our strong and connected education partnerships, our longstanding track record of outstanding children’s services, and our commitment to putting children at the centre of everything we do. We work on the principle that “every child is our child” – and we are seeking a leader who shares that belief.

The Opportunity

This is a career-defining opportunity to shape education strategy in a high-performing council that genuinely values collaborative leadership, community connection, and system transformation.

As our Assistant Director of Education, you will:

  • Lead a passionate and expert education team committed to raising standards and supporting every learner.

  • Drive system-level improvement across educational outcomes, inclusivity, and local sufficiency.

  • Lead on our Inclusion Pledge to reduce exclusions and improve access to local provision, including expanding our specialist resource bases.

  • Strengthen already-excellent relationships with schools, academies, and wider partners through values-based, visible leadership.

  • Influence across the local authority and wider system, contributing to the ongoing success of our outstanding children’s services offer.

About You

We’re open to candidates from a range of professional backgrounds — whether from schools, trusts, or local government. What matters most is your ability to lead strategically, build trust across a diverse system, and uphold our unwavering focus on children.

You will bring:

  • A collaborative and authentic leadership style.

  • The ability to inspire confidence in headteachers, governors, partners, and members.

  • Strong strategic insight into inclusion, SEND, education standards, and sufficiency planning.

  • A commitment to continuous learning and building relationships that endure.

If you’re a current Assistant Director looking to make an impact in a values-led council, or a Head of Service ready to step up with the right support, we’d love to hear from you.

 Why North Lincolnshire?

We are relentlessly ambitious for our children, communities, and workforce. We offer:

  • A strong political and corporate culture that values people, places, and partnerships.

  • Flexibility, trust, and a deep commitment to inclusion and wellbeing.

  • A connected senior leadership team and committed elected members who co-produce strategy and drive change.

  • Outstanding services and a reputation for getting things done in a collaborative, down-to-earth way.

This is a council where you can grow, lead, and make a lasting difference.
